Product summary:

The Safe Step is a universal retrofit access attachment for slab scissor lifts, designed to provide additional safe reach for overhead tasks such as HVAC installation, electrical works and ceiling-level access.

What is a scissor lift safety step? It is a platform-mounted access system that allows operators to safely reach above standard guardrail height when working in ceiling voids and confined indoor environments.

Engineered for hire fleets, rental companies, MEWP owners and end users, the Safe Step fits all major OEM electric slab scissor lifts in the 10ft to 19ft class, including Genie, Skyjack, JLG and Haulotte. It is ideal for hired-in equipment and mixed fleets, allowing safe ceiling access using standard indoor scissor lifts.

Fitted in minutes without permanent modification, the system transfers load through the platform deck rather than handrails, supporting compliant use. With a spring-loaded gate, folding rails and secure control box positioning, the Safe Step improves safety, utilisation and on-site efficiency.

Product information:

What is a Safe Step Access Attachment for Scissor Lifts?

The Safe Step is a retrofit operator access attachment designed for slab scissor lifts, providing additional reach for tasks such as HVAC installation, M&E works and ceiling-level access in confined indoor environments.

Mounted securely to the platform, the Safe Step creates a controlled, compliant working position above deck height while maintaining operator safety and stability.

Originally configured for models such as the Genie GS1932, the Safe Step is now available as a multi-fit solution compatible with all major OEM slab scissor lifts in the 10ft to 19ft class, including machines from Genie, Skyjack, JLG and Haulotte.

Universal Fit Across Slab Scissor Lift Fleets

The Safe Step has been engineered for compatibility across the most common electric slab scissor lifts used across hire fleets and contractor-owned machines.

Typical compatible machines include:

  • 10ft – 19ft electric slab scissor lifts
  • Narrow aisle scissor lifts (approx. 0.76m – 0.81m width)
  • Indoor electric MEWPs used in fit-out, FM and industrial maintenance

These machines typically offer working heights around 5.8m to 7.8m with 227kg platform capacity, making them ideal platforms for Safe Step integration

Key Features of the Safe Step Attachment

  • Universal OEM compatibility – designed to suit major scissor lift brands
  • Retrofit installation – fitted in minutes with no permanent modification
  • Single-person operation – controlled and compliant use
  • Load transfer through deck – no reliance on handrails
  • Spring-loaded access gate – secure entry and exit
  • Folding rail system – maintains manoeuvrability in tight indoor spaces
  • Control box docking position – safe and practical operation

The system is designed to improve safe access while maintaining structural integrity and compliance with working at height best practice.

Improved Access at Height – Designed for Real Site Use

Like systems such as the Skyjack XStep, the Safe Step provides additional working height directly from the platform, improving productivity without requiring alternative access equipment.

Typical benefits include:

  • Safer access to ceiling voids and overhead services
  • Reduced need for ladders or unsafe positioning
  • Faster task completion in confined indoor environments
  • Improved utilisation of existing hire fleet machines

Comparable access systems can add approximately 480mm (19 inches) of additional reach, enhancing working efficiency without changing the base machine footprint

Important Safety & Operational Considerations

  • The MEWP becomes zero wind rated when the step is in use
  • Platform safe working load must be reduced in line with guidance
  • Designed primarily for indoor, controlled environments
  • Intended for trained operators working to RAMS and site procedures

Typical Applications

  • HVAC installation and maintenance
  • Electrical and M&E works
  • Ceiling grids, ducting and containment
  • Facilities management and building services
  • Warehouse and industrial maintenance
